Since 2001, I have provided freelance editing and proofreading services to publishers, authors, and nonprofits. My areas of focus are:
- copy editing — grammar, spelling, formatting, also known as line editing
- substantive editing — sentence and paragraph structure, overall flow of the text, tone and style
- proofreading — the final read-through of a text for correction before printing
I currently specialize in nonfiction books, particularly for scholarly presses. I also edit newsletters, brochures, catalogs, direct mail — even TV show proposals!

- Microsoft Word — 10+ years of experience; electronic editing; creating, modifying, and applying style sheets

I tend to edit lightly so that the author’s voice is retained, while improving word choice and sentence and paragraph structure where necessary.
